Hundreds of young lives in Southwest Virginia were significantly graced this past season when “community angels” provided Appalachian area children with over 1200 pairs of winter shoes and boots. The Tokie Foundation, in collaboration with The Malouf Foundation and other community partners, purchased and delivered the needed shoes to an area of extreme poverty that is at high risk for human trafficking.

The mission of “Shoes Against Child Trafficking – A Poor Buster’s Project” is to empower children seeking life’s basic necessities – – food, clothes, shelter – – to run from strangers and run to trusted guides. Many kind hands and hearts came together to mastermind the success of this most recent project phase. Saxon Shoes facilitated extreme discount buying agreements with numerous footwear companies, and UPS Freight drivers delivered the shoes at no charge.

Through Malouf’s generous contributions, shoes were purchased in specific sizes and accommodated special needs. Custom shoes were ordered for a child with clubbed feet, a child who needed extra arch support, and another girl who wears a size 13 wide. The kids were so excited on the day their gifts were delivered. One of the young girls shed tears as she received her shoes.

We are inspired by Malouf’s generosity and commitment to providing children with hope. This project supported many children in vulnerable situations, and we are grateful for the happiness the shoes provided them.
